The Big Valorant APAC Challengers Changes
In case you may have forgotten, after the VCT Ascension Pacific, Riot Games said that there will be big changes to the Valorant Challengers League in 2025. The first new thing that you need to be aware of is that there will be academy teams.
In 2025, each team that is a part of the VCT Pacific will have an academy in the Challenger league. The idea here is to stimulate the teams to have an additional roster that and train new players that they can rely on.
According to Riot Games, the changes will allow partnered teams to test new players who could potentially join their team. The idea behind these changes is also to give new players more opportunities to join better organizations.
If a given team does not field an academy team, it won’t be able to take part in the VCT Ascension in their specific region.
Which teams will have an academy team in the Valorant APAC Challengers?
Although there might be some changes in the future, for now, these are the VCT Pacific Teams that will have an academy team:
- DRX, T1, Gen.G from Challengers Korea
- DFM and Zeta Division from Challengers Japan
- Team Secret, RRQ, and Talon from Challengers Southeast Asia
- Global Esports from Challengers South Asia
All of these teams will receive a slot for their Challengers League that will take place in 2025.
What’s the New Calendar Look Like?
If you remember, the 2024 Valorant Challengers League had 2 splits. In the 2025 season, however, Riot decided to create three splits. Once the third spit is over, VCT Ascension 2025 will actually be held in October. This is good news for the teams because they’ll have more opportunities to play during the year.
